Wind Symphony Concert To Mark Rhea’s 30 Years At Texas A&M

Dr. Timothy Rhea, director of bands and music activities at Texas A&M, will celebrate his 30th anniversary with the university in a concert with the Texas A&M Wind Symphony on April 30 at 2 p.m. at Rudder Theatre.

Rhea leads the university band program, coordinates the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and serves as conductor of the Wind Symphony.

Dr. David Wilborn, associate professor of music in the School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts, will be featured as bass trombone soloist in a composition he created, which the Wind Symphony premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2008.

The concert will also feature the music of Malcolm Arnold, Leonard Bernstein, Percy Grainger, Karl King and Ottorino Respighi, along with a piece by Julie Giroux that was commissioned by the band program in 2019, when Rhea celebrated his 25th anniversary.

The event will also be streamed live on YouTube.

A reception will follow the concert. Tickets are $5, available at the MSC Box Office. Texas A&M students can get one free ticket at the box office in Rudder Tower.
