Student Musicians To Star In Performance Series On Thursday
Student musicians will perform Thursday at 4 p.m. as part of the School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts’ Performance Series at the Black Box Theater in the Liberal Arts and Arts and Humanities Building.
The series is organized by Dr. Matthew Campbell, assistant program director for Performance Studies. Campbell said the performance will showcase student musicians and bands presenting original music and covers.
“Last semester, two new bands, three gigs and at least one recorded single resulted from the collaborations spurred by our performers,” Campbell said. “They found new outlets and partners in (art) crime, and I hope the same holds true this semester.”
Yuna Lo, a Performance Studies student, will perform a cover of the song “double take” by dhruv. Ethan Testerman, a Biomedical Engineering student, will perform three original songs that are part of his EP titled “What Am I,” which is set to release later this year: “If and Only If,” “Eloquence” and “Iris,” along with covers of “Illusory Sense” and “Circle” by Ichika Nito.
Anjali Kumar, a Computer Science student, and Viha Maddikayala, a Biomedical Science student, will perform three cover songs: “Yellow” by Coldplay, “Reckless” by Madison Beer and “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry. Adharsh Rajavel, a Computer Science student, will also perform with a band.
Hamza Ulla, a Chemistry student whose stage name is Rain King, will perform an original song titled “Islands,” followed by a performance with Nico Ruiz Barnes, whose stage name is Nico Rey, on “Annabeth.” Rain King will also perform “The Willow” with Lucid. Rain King will release his album “Hellion” later this year.
