Bergeron Honored With Distinguished Achievement Award From The Association Of Former Students

Christine Bergeron, associate dean for academic affairs for the Texas A&M School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts and clinical professor for its Dance Science program, received a distinguished teaching award on Friday at Geren Auditorium.

The Association of Former Students honors outstanding faculty members each fall with the College Level Distinguished Achievement Award for their dedication to teaching and for their talent, expertise and devotion in conveying knowledge to students. Recipients also get a $2,000 stipend.

Marty Holmes, vice president of The Association of Former Students, presented the award. Bergeron instills Aggie core values in her students, Holmes said, which will make Texas A&M greater for the next generation.

Bergeron said she wanted to share the award among all faculty members of the School of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts.

“This award belongs to all of you,” she said. “Being in the Dean’s Office, I think one of the things that has been a joy is the fact that I get to see the impact that all of you have on our students and how you engage them and put them first. I see the passion I have for students in all of you.”

Bergeron served as the Dance Science program director for 15 years prior to becoming associate dean. She has also received numerous awards for teaching including the Dance Master Educator award from the National Dance Society and the Dance Educator of the Year honor from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
