Viz students nominated for top animation industry awards
The animated smash hits “Luca” and “Encanto” counted numerous former visualization students among their creators. Two of them, Jon Reisch ’02, and Jose Luis “Weecho” Velasquez ‘10, were nominated for awards for their work by the Visual Effects Society, a global professional group that represents the full breadth of visual effects practitioners.
Reisch is a nominee for Outstanding Visual Effects in an Animated Feature, “Luca”, while Velasquez earned an Outstanding Animated Character in an Animated Feature nomination for his work creating “Encanto”’s memorable main character, Mirabel Madrigal.
The awards are scheduled to be announced March 8.
