Internships hone students’ skills and prepare them to start their careers. With an internship, you’ll gain valuable experience working alongside visualization career professionals. Our student interns have applied their academic experience to various concentrations in visualization, including:
- Graphic Design
- Animation
- Video Game Design
Real World Experiences
As a visualization student, finding an internship is your responsibility. The internship program coordinator, department faculty, and career center can provide valuable resources regarding the internship search process, including contacts with specific individuals and organizations.
Schedule Your Internship
Our internship program is a supervised course that spans 15 weeks and 600 hours. Students will receive a maximum of 6 credit hours for successfully completing their internship. Documentation of a completed internship is gathered through:
- Monthly Reports
- Final Portfolios
- Supervisor Assessment Letters
No other courses may be taken for credit during the internship period away from the Texas A&M University campus.
Qualifications
To qualify for an internship you must:
- Be a visualization student with a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Be in good standing with Texas A&M University
- Receive approval from the internship coordinator
- Have completed VIST 206 and VIST 271
Apply
Students must submit an individual internship agreement form at least 15 days before the semester begins in order to register for VIST 494.
All forms must be completed and signed by the student, the employer, and the internship coordinator before an internship is approved.
Compensation
Your internships must be paid in order for you to earn credit. Compensation for an internship will be handled by the organization you are interning for. The exact amount of compensation is agreed upon between you and the company, but should be at least minimum wage.
Complete Your Internship
To get credit for your internship, you must submit a detailed portfolio that describes your internship experience and the Internship Completion Form. Your internship portfolio and the Internship Completion Form must be submitted to your instructor by 5 p.m. on the last day of classes for the semester in which you completed the internship.
Your portfolio should be no longer than 10 pages, and feature key takeaways from your internship, including:
- A description of the work you completed
- Examples of how you applied classroom knowledge to your position
- How the internship did (or didn’t) contribute to your professional goals
