VIZ Summer Camp
The Art of Science and the Science of ArtAbout the VIZ Summer Camp
The Texas A&M Collegiate VIZ Summer Camp provides interested high school students ages 15 and up with the opportunity to prepare for a future in visualization.
The Visualization program at Texas A&M University focuses on the creation, design and development of the visual experience by teaching students the equal importance of art, technology, science and design. The program is ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 2 among public animation schools nationwide by Animation Career Review.
During the week, students will gain insight into campus life and the Visualization program at Texas A&M University. There will be two session options: Animation and Digital Application Design. Please see below for a description of the learning outcomes for each session.
Students will stay in university dormitories, walk our beautiful campus and work closely with the Visualization faculty and students. Each day will include a variety of studio classes and activities. The classes will be hands-on and project-based. There will be an informal project presentation on the last day of the camp, to which parents are invited.
Registration opens Feb. 28.
VIZ Summer Camp Details
Participants must be 15 or older. Age is determined by the first day of the camp.
There will be two session options: Animation and Digital Application Design.
Animation
This unique camp invites high school students to explore animation through hands-on studio courses using industry-standard digital tools. Led by experienced faculty and current Visualization students, campers will learn essential skills in visual storytelling, just as students in the university’s innovative Visualization major do. Throughout the week, participants will work creatively and collaboratively to produce a group animation to share at a celebratory presentation.
Digital Application Design
This session is perfect for high school students curious about how applications are designed and crafted. You will get hands-on experience designing screens and features for web and mobile applications, learning the basics of user research and creating user-friendly products. Guided by faculty experts, you will discover the basics of user experience (UX) design — how to make digital experiences easy and enjoyable for everyone. No coding experience is needed! Campers will work on a fun project, sketch app ideas and collaborate with peers to bring their design to life. Explore interactive design and learn how your imagination can shape the digital world!
The registration deadline is May 1. All fees are due at this time.
