Creative Care Conference To Explore The Power Of Arts In Health, Oct. 15-18
The conference, hosted by the Institute for Applied Creativity, will cover topics involving art therapy, arts for well-being and movement-based therapy.
The Institute for Applied Creativity will host the inaugural four-day Creative Care Conference starting Wednesday.
The conference is co-led by Matthew Campbell, Ph.D., instructional associate professor in the Performance and Visual Studies program and Jinsil Hwaryoung Seo, Ph.D., associate dean for research and creative works and director of the institute.
The conference aims to gather a multidisciplinary community to explore the power of arts in health care. Panels and workshops will cover topics involving art therapy, arts for well-being and movement-based therapy. Interactive demonstrations will showcase innovative work from Texas A&M students and faculty.
The conference will also feature a community event highlighting care-centered projects and practices. Seo said the goal is to explore how creativity is a tool for healing and community connection.
“This event offers students and community members a unique opportunity to discover diverse career pathways in arts and in health,” she said, “while connecting with leading professionals, artists and researchers in the field.”
Campbell said he hopes guests recognize the ways in which “creativity and aesthetic immersion permeate the most mundane features of everyday life.”
“I’m excited to see how our students will absorb and transform our practitioners’ empathetic tools to improve the relational lives of their peers and loved ones,” he said.
Seo encouraged faculty and students to attend and to build meaningful networks for future collaboration.
“We invite everyone to attend as many sessions as possible and fully experience the creativity, connection and inspiration that this conference has to offer,” she said.
