Explore Visual Arts

At Texas A&M University

Students looking to pursue a career in visual arts will find a wide array of opportunities at Texas A&M University. From animation to video game design, virtual reality to virtual production, we offer the opportunity to explore the creation and development of the visual experience by learning the equal importance of art, technology, science and design.

Where Art and Technology Come Together

The Visualization program fosters artistic, scientific and technical abilities. Our curriculum encourages the development of new technologies and creative applications, and produces technical artists through interdisciplinary coursework. Students develop the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the field.

Undergraduate students explore areas including animation, game design and development, interactive design, visual computing and virtual production. Graduate students also explore user experience design, computer graphics, data visualization and virtual and augmented reality.

Our Ph.D. program in Visual Computing and Interactive Media complements these studies with an emphasis on human-robot interaction, artificial intelligence, digital twins and deep learning for visual computing.

Students can also develop an in-depth understanding of the visual and performing arts through the Performance and Visual Studies program, to include art history, cultural history and media studies. Interdisciplinary coursework and the college’s rich performance schedule provide a broad foundation of knowledge.

The Bachelor of Arts in Performance and Visual Studies equips students with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the visual and performing arts, including art history, cultural history and media studies.

The biggest strength of Visualization is that it walks this middle road between the arts and science. We really worked on building up the humanities, the understanding of the critical theory and the history of what we’re doing. That skill in our students makes them really sought after in industry.
