At Texas A&M University

Students interested in the art and science of dance can thrive at Texas A&M University. We offer dancer wellness and technique courses focused on proper biomechanics, along with choreography, performance and research opportunities. Our graduates go on to perform professionally, teach dance or explore ways to incorporate dance with therapy.

An Interdisciplinary Approach To Dance

Our faculty members don’t just teach students how to be great performers. We use anatomy, psychology, wellness, current research and safe dance practices to keep them dancing longer and healthier.

We train future physical therapists to understand the demands of dancers and how to merge the needs of recovery with the demands of dance in a safe way. Future dance educators learn to recognize physical imbalances in the body; how to address these imbalances through conditioning and proper dance technique; and how to build a psychologically sound classroom.

Through our Dance Science undergraduate degree, students also explore Pilates, dance pedagogy, dance production and composition. The Master of Fine Arts in Dance features the integration of technology in choreography, including motion tracking, projection and other technological advances.

Our students have performance opportunities including an annual program concert, student choreography shows and regional, national and international performance opportunities. We also offer opportunities to work with guest artists through master classes and choreographic residencies and participate in faculty and student rehearsals.

An in-depth understanding of the visual and performing arts can also be developed through the Performance and Visual Studies program. This includes concepts in performance theory, visual culture and critical analysis, along with specialized areas such as dance, film, theatre and visual arts. Interdisciplinary coursework and the college’s rich performance schedule provide a broad foundation of knowledge.
