Watch Now: ‘The Heartbeat: A Cultural Revival’ Exhibition And Performance Series Continue Through Friday
“The Heartbeat: A Cultural Revival” continues through Friday with an art exhibition at the Parker-Astin in Downtown Bryan and a performance at the Physical Education Activity Program Building.
Mezclada Dance Company will perform Friday at 6 p.m. at Room 207 in PEAP. Admission is free, but a ticket is required. The Houston-based company’s performance is titled “Threading Connections,” which will explore relationships and dance styles through shared cultural expressions.
The monthlong exhibition and series of dance performances honoring the Harlem Renaissance was organized by Elijah Alhadji Gibson, associate program director and assistant professor in the Dance Science program in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts.
Photographs of prominent dancers, painters and writers are displayed throughout the Parker-Astin, and several rooms are dedicated to the music, fashion, art and culture of the Harlem Renaissance.
The exhibition is open Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
