Rudder Performance

The Academy for Visual and Performing Arts hosted But Where There’s Hope, There’s Life at Rudder Auditorium on March 13, 2021. This sponsorship allowed the students in this project to finally perform this work live. Due to COVID restrictions, the original performance in November and December had to be modified and many of the dances were presented in a dance film rather than through live performers. This performance was also different from our fall performances because the audience did not travel from one location to another. This version of “HopeLife” was presented like other theatre performances where the audience remained in their seats while the dance occurred onstage. The actors and visualizations were still part of the performance with additions to lighting and sound scores. Stage Manager, Krissie Day, not only served as the lighting designer and manager for the crew, but she also offered artistic suggestions to the performance and created a visualization as the final image of the work. Her contributions will carry on in future performances. Collaborators and dancers of the work are grateful to the AVPA for their financial support of this project and for allowing the dancers to finally perform this work live, some of who have been committed to the project for the past 3 years. Keep an eye out for future activities and performances of “HopeLife.”
