Graduate Students’ Choreography Works Star In ‘Momentum’ Showcase

The performances were April 9-11 at the Black Box Theater in the Physical Education Activity Program Building.

Seven works choreographed by students in the Master of Fine Arts in Dance program were featured during the second-annual “Momentum,” showcase April 9-11 at the Black Box Theater in the Physical Education Activity Program Building.

The show featured six live dances and one screendance work. Performances were choreographed by Mark Aguilar, Jasmine Jaramillo, Sophie Jordan, Grant McGee, Grace Rogers, Elizabeth Stamatio-Hernandez and Mia Tatum.

Andee Scott, M.F.A., academic graduate program director and associate professor, said “Momentum” showcased the students’ artistry and dedication to expression.

The following pieces were performed:

Act I

  • “Semillitas,” choreography, lighting and costumes by Elizabeth Stamatio-Hernandez. Performed by Callie Ratliff, Gracie Coon, Maddie Busic, McKenna Brennan, Phoebe Nunez and Rachel Stoner.
  • “Entwine,” choreography and costumes by Jasmine Jaramillo. Performed by Vanessa Baker, Bridgette Chrisco, Jaramillo, Olivia Jones and Tori Watson. Video by Sarah Schreiner in collaboration with Jaramillo.
  • “(+), (-),” choreographed by Grant McGee in collaboration with dancers. Performed by McKenna Brennan, Natalia Castillo Franco, Anthony Wade and Kiko Young. Costumes by McGee and dancers. Lighting by McGee.
  • “Slow Burn,” choreographed by Sophie Jordan in collaboration with dancers. Performed by Ryee Braun, Rylee Burns, Hope Helbig, Sarah Hymer, Aylsa Justus, Callie Ratliff, Sunnie Swenson and Macey Vasquez. Lighting and costumes by Jordan.  

Act II

  • “Catharsis,” choreography, lighting and costumes by Mark Aguilar. Performed by Rylee Braun, Gracie Coon, Kathleen McKay, Kyndal Stimson, Rachel Stoner, Macey Vasquez and Gianna Zarate.
  • “after. always.,” choreography, lighting and costumes by Grace Rogers. Performed by Ivy Bryant, Maddie Busic, Mackenzie Copfer, Avery Scroggins and Sunnie Swenson.
  • “You Don’t Want To Hear Me, You Just Wanna Dance,” choreography, lighting and costumes by Mia Tatum. Performed by Rylee Burns, Hope Helbig, Sarah Hymer, Kathleen McKay, Phoebe Nunez, Kayla Payton and Kiko Young.
