The free event is in partnership with the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts and the Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts.

MSC Aggie Cinema has announced that the premiere film selected for the inaugural Howdywood Film Festival will be a free screening of “I Love Boosters” on Friday, March 20, at Rudder Theatre, followed by a Q&A with writer/director Boots Riley.

The event, in partnership with the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts and the Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts, is free for all to attend, and starts at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Howdywood Film Festival tickets for March 21 and 22 are available at tx.ag/HowdywoodTix.

Fresh off its premiere at SXSW, “I Love Boosters” is the newest film from writer/director Riley, about a crew of professional shoplifters who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven. The crime comedy stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, LaKeith Stanfield, Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle and Demi Moore. “I Love Boosters” will be in theaters later this year. This one-night-only free event is an exclusive opportunity for Bryan, College Station and Texas A&M audiences to see the film early and hear from the filmmaker.

Riley is a director, activist, screenwriter, producer, poet, rapper and speaker. His film projects, such as “Sorry to Bother You” (2018) and “I’m a Virgo,” a seven-episode series on Amazon Prime Video (2023), are acclaimed for their critique of economic and class politics, as well as Riley’s bold, satirical and absurdist comedic style. Riley is also the founding member and lead vocalist of The Coup and Street Sweeper Social Club, also featuring Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. Riley was deeply involved with the Occupy Oakland movement and was one of the leaders of the activist group The Young Comrades.
