
Music students will take part in 14 concerts the week of Nov. 17-21 for “Crescendo,” an inaugural showcase for the program.
The event features students from 17 courses, and will be in the courtyard and Black Box Theater in the Liberal Arts and Arts and Humanities Building, as well as Rudder Forum and the Rudder courtyard. The styles include piano, woodwinds, percussion, brass and steel pan, along with a vocal showcase and a music technology concert.
“It is a celebration of performance and artistry in music of all forms and highlights the remarkable talents of our students,” said Andrea Edwards, M.M., academic program director for Music Performance and instructional assistant professor.
Nov. 17
Smooth Sailing features Small Ensembles students performing pop-rock music led by David Wilborn, D.M.A., associate professor. 7 p.m. at the LAAH Courtyard.
Nov. 18
The InterArts Showcase will bring Music and Visualization students together to present visual projections alongside live music, led by Michael Bruner, M.F.A., instructional assistant professor, and Lynn Vartan, D.M.A., associate professor. 7 p.m. in LAAH Black Box.
Nov. 19
All four shows are at the LAAH Black Box. Aggieland Percussion Soloists, led by Francisco Perez, D.M.A., instructional associate professor, perform at 12:30 p.m. Woodwind Studio Recital, led by Virginia Figueiredo, D.M.A., instructional associate professor, performs at 2 p.m. Maroon Steel, with direction from Kim Kattari, Ph.D., associate professor, performs at 4 p.m. The Video Game and Film Music Ensemble, led by Figueiredo, performs at 7:30 p.m.
Nov. 20
At 2 p.m., the Improvisation Ensemble performs at the LAAH Black Box, with direction from Will Connor, Ph.D., senior lecturer. Students in Programming for Composers, led by Hongshuo Fan, Ph.D., assistant professor, will present electronic music at 4 p.m. in the Black Box.
At 5:30 p.m. in Rudder Forum, Piano Studio students will perform with direction from Edwards and Mario Barbosa, M.M., instructional assistant professor.
The rock ensemble Duplicate performs at 7 p.m. in the Rudder Courtyard, led by Wilborn. At 8 p.m. in Rudder Forum, students in Music Theatre/Voice Studio courses perform. Rebecca Hays, D.M.A., associate professor, will lead student voice soloists with piano accompaniment.
Nov. 21
Students in the Experimental and Electronic Music course, led by Connor, perform at 2 p.m. in the LAAH Black Box. At 4 p.m. on the first floor of LAAH, the Horn Octet ensemble will perform with direction from Wilborn. Aggieland Percussion Group, led by Perez, will perform at 7 p.m. in the LAAH Black Box.
Edwards said the wide range of performers and instruments in “Crescendo” reflects the “depth of musical offerings in the Music program.”
“Our world-class, dedicated faculty have guided the energy and artistry of our students to discover their own unique voices as musicians, performers and collaborators,” she said. “It is a true source of inspiration for me. Each performance I hear from them is different — unique, powerful, joyful, bold and full of Aggie spirit!”
