Michael Gayk
Instructional Associate ProfessorBiography
Michael Gayk became a faculty member at Texas A&M University in 2019. He is an Instructional Associate Professor of Visualization with a teaching focus in the areas of foundational arts, product design, and algorithmic design. Mr. Gayk received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington in Metal Design. He has spent the last fifteen years teaching at various universities throughout the United States, and brings a vast portfolio of industry experience and art making that shapes his pedagogical practice. As an designer, Mr. Gayk has collaborated on product design teams for such industries as General Motors, and 3D Systems, interfacing with clients on manufacturing engineering processes in domains as automotive, aerospace, dental, facial reconstruction, bio-manufacturing, and architecture.

Scholarly Interests
Michael Gayk is an artist who’s studio practice operates within the digital prefix and interwoven within computational structures and material knowledge. Gayk’s current research areas include digital growth aesthetics and design of biomimicry through algorithms. The output of his research culminates into objects and drawings; all of which embody coexistence of machine assisted making and materials manipulated by hand.
