Biography

Courtney Starrett is an artist working at the intersection of art, craft, and technology. Her work is included in permanent collections at the Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte, NC, and the Center for Contemporary Art & Culture at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR, and has been cited in the forthcoming Handbook on Human-Computer Interaction (Springer; 1st ed. 2023) chapter on Data Physicalization (Dragicevic, Jansen, and Vande Moere, 2019) and published in the journal Leonardo (MIT Press), Metalsmith Magazine, How Design Magazine, Taiwan Craft Magazine, Art Jewelry Magazine, Cast: Art and Objects, 500 Necklaces, and 500 Plastic Jewelry Objects. Starrett’s current creative research investigates using conceptually relevant data to create forms utilizing computer programming and digital design/fabrication processes in combination with handwork. Starrett has served as an ACM SIGGRAPH volunteer for over a decade, serving on the unified jury for conference content, as the 2014 Studio chair, 2019 Emerging Technologies chair, 2022 Community Engagement chair, and 2023 Labs chair.
