Graduation Spotlight: Colton Neuville, Performance Studies
In Colton Neuville’s youth, he was drawn to the performing arts. The Euless native joined choir and drama clubs, and set out on a path to pursue the arts in the future.
That love of performing led to him completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performance Studies. He is set to graduate Thursday, and he will also be honored as a distinguished student in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts’ Graduation Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday.
“I didn’t really expect to get this award, I’m truly honored,” he said. “There are so many amazingly talented individuals in my program. I’d like to thank all of them because I truly wouldn’t have made it this far without them.”
Neuville recalled his excitement to star in the musical “Ordinary Days,” directed by former student Syara Villarreal, in May 2024. Neuville also noted the Altered States and Performance Seminar course taught by Dr. Kim Kattari, associate professor in Performance and Visual Studies.
“Performing in Ordinary Days’ was an incredible experience, being in a musical and getting to work with Syara and the amazing company,” he said. “Dr. Kattari’s course was one of the coolest classes I’ve ever taken. It really expanded my horizons to the impacts that different states of mind can have on an individual.”
Neuville said Dr. Will Connor, lecturer, was another influential professor during his time in the program. Neuville said he knew in the early stages of Connor’s courses that he would walk away with insight into music and performance.
“Dr. Connor was so supportive in helping me learn about musicality,” Neuville said. “We got to build instruments by hand in his class, and his knowledge was instrumental.”
Following graduation, Neuville plans to earn a Master of Arts in Performance Studies. He also hopes to one day achieve a doctorate in the arts.
“I’m still a bit undecided about specific research prospects, but I’m excited to see where my educational journey will continue to take me,” he said.
