Austin Percussionist Ivan Trevino To Join Students And Faculty In Ensemble Concert April 14
Austin-based percussionist Ivan Trevino will join students and faculty members in the Music Performance program in a Percussion Ensemble Concert on April 14 at 7 p.m.
The free concert in the Black Box Theater in the Liberal Arts and Arts and Humanities Building will feature a selection of works composed by Trevino, who is a professor of practice in percussion at the University of Texas at Austin.
Students in percussion ensemble courses taught by Dr. Francisco Perez, instructional associate professor, will perform. Trevino, Perez and Dr. Lynn Vartan, associate professor, will perform Trevino’s “Catching Shadows.” Keyboard percussion instruments, drums and electric guitar will also be part of the concert.
Trevino said he was grateful to have an entire program dedicated to performing his work.
“To get to share the stage with A&M professors Francisco Perez, Lynn Vartan and their wonderful students will be a highlight,” Trevino said. “A&M is so lucky to have Francisco and Lynn championing the arts and nurturing young Aggie percussionists, and I couldn’t be happier to visit their program and help support their educational mission.”
Vartan performed Trevino’s “Ghost I Used to Know” during a November concert last year titled “Memor-ii” in the Igloo Studio. She said looks forward to further showcasing his work.
“It’s really exciting that we are doing a concert completely on his music,” Vartan said. “Guests will hear some of his greatest hits. It’s such joyful, fun and groovy music. It’s what we love to play and what audiences love to hear.”
