Explore Theatre

At Texas A&M University

A unique opportunity is emerging on stages at Texas A&M University: learning how to build a theatrical production from the ground up. With an emphasis on devised theatre, our faculty members help students create original works and build broad expertise in the skills necessary to collaboratively develop and mount theatrical productions.

Devising New Creations

The Theatre program is centered in a practice-based approach to the many facets of theatre-making. This includes performance (acting, voice, movement, directing); design and production (costume, lighting, sound design, technology); and arts administration and community engagement (producing and archiving theatrical productions; working with communities and specialized populations).

Our faculty members have devised a curriculum and co-curricular season that provides students with the skills and knowledge to become leaders in the global theatre industry. Participation in the theatrical productions creates a high-impact educational experience, giving students the opportunity to put their classroom learning into practice.

Through this program, students will become flexible and innovative creators who can communicate across cultures and media, and who thrive in a highly varied and ever-changing job market. They will be prepared to embark on careers in a variety of settings, both in theatre and beyond.

Students can also develop an in-depth understanding of the visual and performing arts through the Performance and Visual Studies program. This includes concepts in performance theory, visual culture and critical analysis, along with specialized areas such as theatre, dance, film and visual arts. Interdisciplinary coursework and the college’s rich performance schedule provide a broad foundation of knowledge.
