Applications for the Ph.D. in Visual Computing and Interactive Media will be open soon. Prospective students must apply through the Texas A&M University GraduateCAS (Centralized Application Service).
The key element of the admissions process will be to assess a student’s potential to undertake advanced academic studies and to be successful in undertaking original research in the field. A successful applicant will ideally be able to demonstrate a multidisciplinary background in the sciences and arts; provide evidence of aptitude and preparation in computer science and mathematics; and convincingly elaborate a desire to creatively push the boundaries in visual computing and interactive media.
Admission to Ph.D. programs at Texas A&M University is determined by individual degree programs. The key items that we consider include:
Degree and transcripts: Holding an accredited baccalaureate degree or a master’s degree.
Letters of recommendation: Three to five letters of recommendation. The preferred source is faculty members who advised the applicant in research projects or who taught the applicant in visual computing or interactive media courses. Of most significance will be faculty members’ assessments of the applicant’s research potential and scholarly aptitude, and rank performance in courses.
Curriculum vitae: CV or resume including proof of professional and/or academic experience and performance, and evidence of the ability to pursue advanced study and research.
Statement of purpose: A brief autobiographical statement describing the applicant’s interest in the Ph.D. in Visual Computing and Interactive Media, and statement of purpose.
Additional documents (optional):
- Links to portfolio demonstrating software development competence — such as github page, gitlab, bitbucket — or a portfolio of visual works presented in digital media files.
- Links to research papers, research presentations, posters and research project(s).
