Aggieland Music Summit Features Industry Professionals, Faculty Discussions, Student Performances
The event featured panel discussions and three performances at the College Station Events Center. Hagler Fellow Lyle Lovett and his guests Leland Sklar and Chuck Ainlay were among the panelists.

Students, faculty and a Grammy-winning Aggie had starring roles in the Aggieland Music Industry Summit on April 16.
The event featured panel discussions and three performances at the College Station Events Center, hosted by Visit College Station, the Texas Music Office’s Music Friendly Community Program and the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts, along with other contributors.
The music industry discussion featured Lyle Lovett, Texas A&M graduate and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter; Leland Sklar, bassist, session musician and member of Lovett’s band; and Chuck Ainlay, Grammy-winning producer/engineer. The trio have been visiting classes this week and attended a documentary screening of “Immediate Family” as part of Lovett’s Hagler Fellow residency with the college.
A panel about the creative work being done in the college included Andrea Edwards, program director for Music; Jon Yerby, assistant professor; and Wayne Miller, executive producer for the Virtual Production Institute.
Guitar students John Myers and Ayush Bantawa performed with vocal student Lyndsey Yoder, and singer-songwriter students Savannah Spors and Kendale Walker performed original works on guitar.
“I hope everyone was able to take away a new understanding of how the music industry works,” said Toby Pipes, music industry relations coordinator for the college. “I hope guests and students were inspired by the new opportunities that are open at the university and within the community overall.”
