Graduate Student Artist Residency Showcase

Nik Aberle, a second-year Master of Fine Arts in Visualization student, earned the inaugural Graduate Student Artist Residency — a partnership between the college and the Arts Center of Brazos Valley — and worked on his research throughout the semester.

His installation features a red laser that visualizes sound waves from a speaker, which is driven by the movements of people in the room. When people move and change positions, five distance sensors cause the sounds that animate the laser to change. As more people enter the space and interact with the sensors, the more active the laser pattern becomes.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Arts Center will be closed for the holidays Dec. 21 through Jan. 4.
