‘We Were Here’

The Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts presents this film addressing the untold history of Black Africans in Renaissance Europe, highlighting their depiction in masterpieces by some of the era’s most celebrated artists. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Fred Kudjo Kuwornu, this multilingual documentary takes viewers through the UK, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and France, offering a reexamination of European art history and its cultural legacy. Co-sponsored by the Melbern G. Glasscock Center for Humanities Research and the Race and Ethnic Studies Institute.
