Performance and Visual Studies<\/a> student, performed three works: \u201cMinuetto\u201d by Domenico Scarlatti; \u201cToccatina in Black and White,\u201d by Robert D. Vandall; and she was joined by Murphy for \u201cTheme from Polovetzian Dances\u201d by Alexander Borodin. <\/p>\n\n\n\nThis was Lo\u2019s first semester learning piano from Edwards. Within 12 individual lessons, she learned three pieces for the recital while learning about music theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cProfessor Edwards has been very supportive and a helpful teacher in every way possible,\u201d Lo said. \u201cShe is a very thoughtful and an experienced musician that goes above and beyond to ensure success in our music.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lo said the recital felt like a welcoming space to perform for friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI really just enjoyed every moment of it,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to creating and building more music performances and collaboration with our students and faculty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Murphy, a junior Computer Science student, performed two works: \u201cSonata in D major, Hob XVI:37\u201d by Franz Joseph Haydn; and \u201cArabesque 2: Allegretto Scherzando\u201d by Claude Debussy. He said he was excited to collaborate with Lo and perform the \u201cPolovetzian Dance\u201d duet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI learned how to appear confident and continue playing,\u201d he said. \u201cEven if I made a mistake during the performance, I kept going.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\nJonathan Herrera, Ricky Miller, Myles Murphy, Yuna Lo, Gavin Orris, Grace Lunsford and Cameron Chin performed at the recital. Gavin Orris performed \u201cPineapple Rag\u201d by Scott Joplin; and performed and arranged \u201cRequiem of Silence\u201d by Kenchiro Suehiro. Cameron Chin performed \u201cEtude #4 \u2018Embraceable You\u2019\u201d by Earl Wild; and \u201cSonata No. 5\u201d by Alexander Scriabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edwards said she is proud of her students, and noted that \u201cexcellence in performance can only be achieved with equal excellence in preparation.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe recital is evidence of their talent and dedication,\u201d she said. \u201cThe wonderful bonus for me is that they are genuinely wonderful people, too. This is only the beginning \u2014 I can’t wait to hear what\u2019s next.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
