Four Graduate With Distinguished Student Recognition
Rachel Hitt, Lara Lawrence Soberanis, Carissa Mathiason and Natalia Cortez were recognized for the summer graduating class.
Four students in the summer 2026 graduating class were recognized as distinguished students in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. The students graduated on Aug. 8 at Reed Arena.
Rachel Hitt graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Visualization. She will start working Hitt will start working as a data imagery editor Apple through Mindlance. She also plans to pursue opportunities in film, photography and creative media.
“What I’ll remember most about my time in Viz are the people, experiences and memories that shaped who I am today,” she said. “I found the confidence to lead, collaborate, take creative risks and tell stories that matter. As I begin this next chapter, I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who helped me get here and excited to carry everything I’ve learned with me into whatever comes next.”
Lara Lawrence Soberanis graduated with a Master of Science in Visualization. Soberanis will continue studying Visualization and pursue the college’s Ph.D. in Visual Computing and Interactive Media.
“The Viz program has been a dream of mine, as someone who loves both art and science,” Soberanis said. “It has provided me with the ability to proudly use both skills across my work. I am so happy to see that opportunity shared between the students, faculty and staff, and I am always inspired by the innovative talent throughout the college.”
Carissa Mathiason graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Dance Science. Mathiason will begin teaching at various dance studios and choreographing for theatre companies in the Pearland and Houston area.
“The Dance Science program has challenged my artistry as a choreographer and has shaped my lens as a science-based dance educator,” she said.
Natalia Cortez graduated with a Master of Arts in Performance Studies.
“I am deeply thankful for the unwavering support and motivation from the college’s staff, faculty and peers throughout this journey,” Cortez said. “Their teachings will continue to guide my path toward future goals and opportunities.”
