Lyle Lovett’s residency with the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts continues with a special guest on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Bruce Bryant, a Houston filmmaker, will join Lovett for a discussion and screening of his 2009 documentary “For the Sake of the Song: The Story of Anderson Fair.” The screening will take place in the Black Box Theater in the Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities Building from 4 to 6 p.m.

“For the Sake of the Song” details the history of Anderson Fair, the legendary music venue in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston, where Texas singer-songwriters found a home early on in their careers.
Artists featured in the film include Lovett and fellow Texas A&M graduate Robert Earl Keen, along with Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, Nanci Griffith, Vince Bell and Eric Taylor.
Lovett says in the trailer, “There’s something about the feel of the room that you can just hear your heartbeat inside your body when you’re on that stage.”
And Keen compares the venue to another renowned stage: “In my mind, you know, I might as well be playing Carnegie Hall.”
Lovett is a Hagler Fellow this semester, working with students in the College of Performance, Visualization and Fine Arts. He has visited a variety of courses, sharing his insight on songwriting, playing guitar and developing a distinctive voice, along with anecdotes from his acting career.
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, students and faculty in the college can engage with Lovett in a meet-and-greet lunch and reception from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities Building, Room 453.
