Due to the overwhelming copyright fees with the original music by Ezio Bosso, project coordinators sought out a new composer for the project. In October 2020, a section of But Where There’s Hope, There’s Life was presented in a virtual performance by Texas State’s Dance Department. During the Q&A session following the performance, they met composer Richard Hall. It was here that a partnership was born. Richard had worked with choreographers in the past and also worked with some musicians with experience in Jewish melodies. This combination made him a natural fit for the needs of this project. Choreographers, Carisa and Chris, met with Richard for initial discussions and immediately felt comfortable with his approach to creating original compositions for this evening-length work. Since the beginning of 2021, Richard has composed new musical scores for At Home, Stay Out of Sight, Unseen Solitude, and When All is Lost. Currently, he is working on Ghetto and hopes to complete Liberation, Transport, and Todesmärche by the end of Summer 2021. This new collaboration will allow the work to continue beyond the current budget restraints and brings new life to the work. Richard’s new compositions can be heard in all future performances of But Where There’s Hope, There’s Life.
