SUMMARY:Performances Of 'Trace' and 'Datum'
DESCRIPTION:Photo courtesy of Waco Mammoth National Monument.Waco Mammoth National Monument presents two performances of Merli V. Guerra‘s research at the annual Fall Fossil Festival. With interactive video projections by Tim Weaver and production by Jam Martinez\, the site-specific performances combine dance\, motion capture\, video projection and paleontology inside the active dig shelter. Performers include Abby Ruehlen; undergraduate dance students Rylee Burns and Macey Vasquez; and graduate dance students Sophie Jordan and Grant McGee. Guerra\, assistant professor of dance technology\, is Waco Mammoth’s inaugural artist in residence. Her work as a choreographer and interdisciplinary artist combines dance\, film and technology to honor historic sites. In celebration of National Fossil Day\, Guerra presents “TRACE” and “DATUM\,” sourcing inspiration from the site’s now-stagnant fossilized remains and the paleontologists’ “gridding out” process. Performances will take place inside the dig shelter at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This family-friendly festival starts at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. and includes activities for all ages\, including fossil identification\, story time\, nature walks and guided tours.
