Audition Requirements
All Theatre B.F.A. applicants (freshmen, transfer and change-of-major) must audition for the program. Your audition will be reviewed by a committee of Theatre program faculty.
Prospective students should apply to Texas A&M University as early as possible. Spring and Fall 2027 applications are open now, see deadlines to apply below. Students must be accepted to the university and the Theatre program to declare a major in Theatre.
Online auditions are open. Notification of audition results will be emailed within approximately two weeks after the audition. Digital auditions may take longer.
How does the audition work?
Whether you choose to audition in person or online, each submission has two parts: a portfolio presentation and responses to questions that help us get to know you. We want to see you at your best and learn what excites you about theatre.
Audition Format
- Portfolio presentation (2-5 minutes): Showcase a combination of your best creative work. This can include examples of performance, devising, technical work, design projects, playwriting, directing and stage management.
- Interview or written response: Tell us:
- Why does creating original work matter to you?
- How do you collaborate with people different from yourself?
- What are your goals, and how do you see us helping to achieve them?
Submit Your Audition
You have the option to audition in person (at TxETA Theatrefest, Texas Thespians State Festival or Day of Theatre) or to submit your audition online.
In person:
- At TxETA TheatreFest Auditions in Arlington, Sept. 30-Oct. 3.
- At Texas Thespians State Festival College Auditions in Corpus Christi, Nov. 13-16; and in Grapevine, Nov. 18-21.
- At Day of Theatre at Texas A&M on Friday, Feb. 26, 2027.
Online:
- Please include your first and last name and UIN on all submission materials.
- Online auditions should be submitted by the applicable deadlines listed below.
Freshman Admission
- Admission into Texas A&M University, College Station campus.
- Spring 2027 freshman applications are open. The deadline to apply is Oct. 15, 2026.

Audition for spring 2027 admission to the Theatre program: Submit an audition no later than Dec. 1, 2026.
- Fall 2027 freshman applications are open. The deadline to apply is Dec. 1, 2026.
- Audition for fall 2027 admission to the Theatre program: Submit an audition no later than May 1, 2027.
Transfer Admission
- Admission into Texas A&M University, College Station campus.
- Minimum transferable hours: 24
- Maximum transferable hours: 75
- 2.75 GPR overall
- Spring 2027 transfer applications are open. The deadline to apply is Oct. 15, 2026.
- Audition for spring admission to the Theatre program: Submit an audition no later than Dec. 1, 2026.
- Fall 2027 transfer applications open Jan. 1, 2027. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2027.
- Audition for fall admission to the Theatre program: Submit an audition no later than July 1, 2027.
Change-of-Major Admission
- 2.75 GPA
- 3 hours of core math
- 3 hours core life and physical science
- 3 hours of English/communications
- 60 max credit hours
- Spring admission to the Theatre program: Submit an audition no later than Dec. 1, 2026.
- Fall admission to the Theatre program: Submit an audition no later than July 1, 2027.
Day of Theatre: Feb. 26, 2027
What is it really like to be a Theatre major at Texas A&M? Find out at Day of Theatre! Students ages 15 and up can take classes, meet current students and faculty and tour our facilities. We’ll finish the day with a performance and Q&A.

General Schedule
Parents will drop participants off between 8:30 and 9 a.m. at the Liberal Arts and Arts & Humanities Building (LAAH). Check-in will be located in the lobby on the first floor. Please bring a water bottle. Students will spend the day with faculty and current students, taking classes and learning about our program. Lunch will be provided. The last class for participants will end at 3 p.m., after which Rayna Dexter, academic program director, will talk in more detail about the program here at Texas A&M. The informational session will be followed by a brief showcase of theatrical works by current Theatre majors. Parents are welcome to attend the Informational Session and Student Showcase (3-5 p.m. in the LAAH Black Box Theater).
Auditions
We will host one Day of Theatre each spring, which can be used as an audition and interview for high school seniors, transfer students or change-of-major students.
